Raaga TrippinÆ to open IPL with Pritam

MUMBAI: At the Indian Premiere League (IPL) opening ceremony, famous Bollywood musician Pritam will be joined by Mumbai-based a capella group Raaga Trippin'. The ensemble will play an 18-song medley of some of Pritam's well known hits, along with a Rabindranath Tagore tune and the track Raaga Trippin' is well known for – 'Lat Lag Gayi'. Also joining Pritam during his performance will be Bollywood singer Ash King.

"The Rabindranath Tagore tune – Anondo Loke will not be a capella," said Raaga Trippin member Suzanna D'Mello. "For 'Anondo Loke', there is going to be a special orchestrated choir arrangement," she continued. When asked about when and how Raaga Trippin' ended up being asked to open the IPL, D'Mello stated that talks had been on for the past few weeks. However, it all began at the GIMA Awards, when the group performed an 18-song Pritam medley to commemorate his decade-long work in the industry.

Last year, Raaga Trippin' was signed on by Qyuki – the multichannel network created by Shekhar Kapur, A.R. Rahman and Samir Bangara. Speaking on the six-member group's association with Qyuki, D'Mello said, "We were looking for someone to help us market ourselves and make Raaga Trippin' a brand. And Qyuki is the go-to company for that. When we met with Shekhar and Samir, they were just really blown away. Since then, Qyuki has helped us gain more exposure and support. It has also helped us with the post production on our videos and helped us all grow as artists."

D'Mello revealed that Raaga Trippin' is currently working on storyboards and ideas that present a capella in an entirely different way. "And, yes, working on new original tracks is a part of it," she added.

Other music artists scheduled to perform at the IPL opening ceremony include Farhan Akhtar and his band. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on 8 April 2015 at Kolkata's Salt Lake City Stadium.
