Pardeep Sran gets first break in Bollywood with 'Allah Hu' from 'Dharam Sankat Mein'

MUMBAI: Having worked extensively for the Punjabi music industry, Pardeep Sran always dreamt of making it to the tinsel town of Bollywood, but did not know how. As the saying goes "the universe conspires"; that was the case with Sran, who suddenly got a call from the composer Sachin Gupta to record the song 'Allah Hu' from the movie 'Dharam Sankat Mein'.

"Sachinji asked me to sing the song, and get back to him within a couple of hours. Instead of a couple of hours, I sang the song for him in half an hour, and he was very happy because my voice suited the character. We recorded the song the next day. It was pretty smooth," said Sran.

Talking about his first brush with Bollywood, he commented, "Everything happened so quickly. One fine day I get a call and the next day board a flight to Mumbai. So I actually did not even have time to feel good. I am looking forward to the release of the film." Sran's father is a renowned Punjabi folk singer and his mother is a professor and loves writing. According to him, his interest in singing is inherited from his father and his love for writing comes from his mother.

Punjabi songs are generally associated with lyrics based on alcohol, girls and dope. Sran, however, does not endorse that belief. "I think people come up with these statements out of jealousy towards singers who are doing well. There are many singers who have made devotional songs, why do people not get influenced by that. Singers also make folk songs, but people hardly listen to them. So why are singers being blamed for the same," he explained.

From the Punjabi music industry, he adores Gurdas Maan. Some day he dreams to sing for AR Rahman, Meet Brothers and Sachin Jigar.

'Dharam Sankat Mein' will hit theaters on 10 April, 2015.
