Pankaj Udhas releases a new single 'Khwaabon Ki Kahaani'

MUMBAI: Renowned for ghazals like 'Chitthi Aayi Hai', ‘Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera’ and ‘Aahista’, Pankaj Udhas, on Sunday, launched a new single titled ‘Khwaabon Ki Kahaani’. The latest ghazal is written by Alok Shrivastav.

“We were recording the title track for a TV serial, when during the interval, Alok told me about a new single he had written. He sung a couple of lines and I loved it. I asked him if he had given the rights of the song to someone else, and fortunately he had not. With a mutual consent we recorded the song and it was ready within a week,” said the veteran Bollywood singer.

Udhas went on to say that the single is about widening narrow perspectives and looking at the bigger picture of life. According to him, language for this single will not be a barrier, as the track’s lyrics are easy to understand and any Hindi speaking person can understand it.

The singer also revealed that he has never tried his hands at lyric writing, as he feels that in depth knowledge is needed to do so. “I can write lyrics if I try, but I have never really tried it. While writing for a ghazal you need to have good knowledge of Urdu, only then you can do full justice to it,” he explained.

According to Udhas, ghazals are a form of poetry. He loves the works of Meer, Kabir, Galib and Pakistani poet, Ahmed Faraz. ‘Khwaabon Ki Kahaani’ will be distributed by Hungama.
