One Direction, Katy Perry and Iggy Azalea take home most gongs at AMAs

MUMBAI: The American Music Awards (AMA) wrapped up with UK pop band- One Direction taking home the most awards on the night. The 'Midnight Memories' hitmakers won three titles- Favourite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group, Favourite Pop/Rock Album and Artist of the Year.

'Firework' singer Katy Perry also picked up three awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist and Single of the Year (Dark Horse feat. Juicy J). Unfortunately, Perry was not present to accept the gongs as she is on tour in Australia.

Another big winner at the AMAs was Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, who won in two categories- Favourite Rap/ Hip Hop Album and Favourite Artist Rap/Hip Hop Album. The awards made for a perfect comeback to rap legend Eminem, who recently rapped about dragging Azalea by his Humvee and raping her in his new track 'Vegas'. However, the 24 year old made sure to thank Eminem in her acceptance speech. “It just means so much that I can stand here against Eminem and Drake and come out with this. It's amazing. It means so much to me that it is for Best Hip-Hop, because that's what inspired me to move to America and pursue my dreams," she said.

Beyonce took home two awards as well, for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Album (Beyonce). Favorite Alternative Rock Artist went to Imagine Dragons while New Artist of the Year went to 5 Seconds of Summer. British singer Sam Smith picked up the award for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist and Disney's 'Frozen' won for Favourite Soundtrack.

Other winners on the night included Luke Bryan (Country Male Artist), Carrie Underwood (Country Female Artist), Calvin Harris (Electronic Dance Music Artist), Enrique Iglesias (Latin Artist), John Legend (Soul/R&B Male Artist) and Florida Georgia Line (Country Band/Duo/Group). 'Blank Space' singer Taylor Swift was also honoured at the awards with the Dick Clark Award For Excellence.
