One DirectionÆs æDrag Me DownÆ sets new record on Spotify

MUMBAI: When One Direction suddenly released their latest single ‘Drag Me Down’, it came as a surprise to everyone. However, it comes as no surprise that the British boyband has broken yet another record with the new track. ‘Drag Me Down’, which was released on Friday, 31 July, has set a new record on Spotify for one-day streams.

The track was streamed a total of 4.75 million times on the music streaming service, making it the most streamed track in a day. It also broke the previous record - Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s ‘See You Again’ – which had 4.26 million streams on 17 April, this year.

‘Drag Me Down’, according to Spotify, is also the first track ever to top the Spotify Global Chart on the same day it has been released. The previous track that held the record was Calvin Harris’ ‘Blame’ feat. John Newman and it took two days for the track to top of the chart.

Additionally, ‘Drag Me Down’, which is written by Julian Bunetta, John Ryan and Jamie Scott, and produced, by Bunetta and Ryan, topped 15 individual country charts, including United States, France, Italy, Brazil, Canada, Argentina, Ireland, Peru, Ecuador, Philippines, Portugal, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Malaysia.

The single is the first to be released from One Direction’s upcoming, yet untitled album, and features four of the band’s members – Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson- after Zayn Malik quit the group earlier this year.
