New frog species named after Ozzy Osbourne

MUMBAI: Scientists have named a new species of frog as Pendropsophus ozzy in honour of English heavy metal vocalist Ozzy Osbourne.

The 19.4mm amphibian was discovered by scientists working in the Brazilian Amazon during a bio-diversity survey in 2009 and was named after the 64-year-old singer, who infamously bit the head off a bat during a gig in 1982, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

His last association with an animal was when he bit the head off a bat on stage in 1982.

Ozzy's daughter Kelly was thrilled by this honour.

Taking to her official Twitter page she wrote "You know you have made it when they name a whole new species of frog after you!!! Congratulations dad @OzzyOsbourne (sic)," posting a link of one of the articles about the study.

Osbourne was recently honoured at Scotland with the Global Icon Award at the MTV EMAs. It was presented by music icon Slash.

The Black Sabbath frontman had a victorious solo career with 11 studio albums, three Grammy awards, and was also inducted into UK Music Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath and as a solo artiste.

Ozzy's 'Memoirs of a Madman'- a compilation album, was recently launched.
