Mumford and Sons give fans first taste of upcoming album with new track 'Believe'

MUMBAI: Mumford and Sons has given fans a taste of what their brand new album will sound like, after announcing last week that the band has moved away from its familiar folksy-acoustic sound. The English folk rock band released the first track- 'Believe' from its upcoming album 'Wilder Minds', which will feature more electric and synth sounds.

True to their word, 'Believe' has a bigger sound with electric guitars and a louder pounding of drums. But one thing remains the same with the band; it maintains its lyrical charm with the song. As ‘Believe’ progresses, it gradually builds up in sound, and finally explodes into a harmony of intense guitaring and strong drum beats.

A simple, but intriguing music video was also released with the new track. It offers a front seat view of a car ride through the night. As the song picks up, so does the speed of the car, before finally stopping at the wooden bench that features on the album’s cover.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Marcus Mumford revealed that the album was partly inspired by bands like Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Fleetwood Mac and others. “All our favourite bands, from Dire Straits and Fleetwood Mac to Radiohead, all go about it in interesting ways, and especially with a very lyrical band like ours, you have to be even more intentional about space,” he said.

‘Wilder Minds’ is the band’s third studio album and is a follow up to its 2012 release ‘Babel’, which won a Grammy for Album of the Year. The upcoming album is set to release on 4 May this year.
