Manoj Yadav writes two songs for Arka's new album

MUMBAI: 'Teri Mei Kahaani’ lyricist, Manoj Yadav, has written a couple of songs ‘7 ½’ and ‘Parmaatma’ for the newly formed band- Arka. The band comprises musicians- V Selvaganesh, Karthik, Ravichandra Kulur, Gino Banks, Mishko M'ba and Santhosh Chandran. The album, which is also titled ‘7 ½’, comprises a total of eight songs.

Talking about how the project happened, Yadav said, “Kartik heard my songs from my devotional album ‘Ganaraj Adhiraj’ which contains 20 songs and a few other ‘Coke Studio Season 2’ tracks like ‘Madari’, ‘Chad De’, ‘Banjaara’ and ‘Marghat’. Some of our mutual friends, like Kunal Ganjawala, also suggested my name to him and this is how he called me up and told me about the band.” Yadav revealed that the melody of the songs was already created, and he had to write on the meter.

As it was an independent project, Yadav was given complete freedom, and was not bound by a deadline either. ‘Parmaatma’ was the first track to be written. “Like everyone has a moment of realisation, even I realised that nothing lies in the name. This is when I came up with these lines, “Main bhi parmaatmaa hoon, tu bhi parmaatmaa hai, naamon mein kya rakkha yahan, Gauri hai ya Fatimaa hai, rooh ki kachehri mein, dono ka muqadmaa hai, samjhen”, he revealed.

The second song was written when the band was at Gino Bank’s studio. The title track is based on the meaning of ‘Arka’, which means sun. He thought the meaning of ‘Arka’ should be included in the song and this is when he came up with ‘7 ½’, which is based on the philosophy that one should live for others and spread happiness.

Yadav also said that he enjoys working both, on film and non film projects. “Writing for a film is all about deadlines and you work the best under pressure and needs that extra effort. Whilst for the non film projects, one can wait for inspiration,” he explained.

Arka and Yadav have also been working on a few other songs for another album.
