The Ganesh Talkies to release new EP by December

MUMBAI: Since releasing their debut record - 'In Technicolor' last September, Kolkata-based funk alt-rock pop band Ganesh Talkies have been seen performing at several music festivals such as Control Alt Delete, Vans New Wave Music Fest, Bacardi NH7 Weekender, and most recently, Metropolis.

Speaking to Radioandmusic.com, lead vocalist Suyasha Sengupta said, "Since the release of the album, we have been scoring loads of gigs, so, I guess people really did like the album and The Ganesh Talkies." The band has already begun work on new material, as revealed by Sengupta. She further informed, "The plan is to have a four to five track 'The Ganesh Talkies' extended play (EP), that we are looking to release in December. Before that, we will release a couple of singles in from September or October. We want to get the done with the recording by August, for the post-production to start."

Sengupta said that the new record will also be produced by veteran music producer Miti Adhikari, who also produced the debut album. Adhikari has produced records for Foo Fighters and worked for almost three decades as the prime recording engineer at the legendary Maida Vale Studios in London.

Talking about the sound of the new album, Sengupta said, "We will continue with the Bollywood element in our music, but the new record is just going to be heavier and angrier. It is going to be 'angry Bollywood', while still being relevant. It is inspired by the current state of the country and how frustrating it is to watch the younger generation turn a blind eye to the wrong things happening around them."

Sengupta also said that she is working on her solo project, which she plans to release by the end of the year. "I have been working on stuff of my own for a while. That is still in early stages but hopefully should be out by the end of the year," she said. On the prospect of collaborations on the album, Sengupta said that she would love to work with Suryakant Sawhney, lead vocalist of Peter Cat Recording Co. "I would love to work with Suryakant, I feel he is one of best musicians in the country," she added.

She also added that The Ganesh Talkies will be performing with Peter Cat Recording Co. on 8 May at The Humming Tree in Bangalore. After that, The Ganesh Talkies will perform at the upcoming fourth edition of the IOMMA (Indian Ocean Music Market) in the first week of June in Réunion Island with other indie acts such as Sky Rabbit, Tritha Electric and Donn Bhat + Passenger Revelator.
