Bollywood music composer duo Sachin û Jigar wish to apply to Berkelee College of Music

MUMBAI: After composing for hit Bollywood films like 'ABCD: Any Body Can Dance', 'Himmatwala', 'Go Goa Gone', 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' and 'Finding Fanny', commercially successful Bollywood music composer duo- Sachin Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya, commonly known as Sachin-Jigar, wish to compose for symphonies, they told Radioandmusic.com.

“We see ourselves studying at Berklee College of Music,” said Sanghvi. “We want to learn composing for symphonies,” prompted Saraiya. When asked if they wish to study a particular instrument at the college or just pursue learning Western Classical music theory, Sanghvi added, “It is going to be mainly music theory, but I really want to learn to play the contrabass.”

“I want to start with the guitar, through which I want to step into learning to play more string instruments. Because, I really want play for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London,” stated Sanghvi. When asked whether the role of a conductor is in the near future, Saraiya was quick to add, “I do see myself as a conductor.”

Adulation for Academy Award and multiple Grammy Awards winning composer Hans Zimmer was unanimous from both, Sanghvi and Saraiya. “I would be happy to be a waiter in Zimmer’s school,” said Saraiya. When asked if they adored another music composer from across the world, Sanghvi said, “No, Hans Zimmer is the only one for me.” Saraiya added, “I loved his work for the film ‘Interstellar’. That is because, in the film, his score flawlessly moves from foley to sound effects and back to score. You do not understand when his score has merged with the sound effect and come back into the score and transported you to other planets, then return back to earth and then completely mesmerise you to the point of utter involuntary submission to his music,” added Saraiya.

The ‘Badlapur’ composer duo also said, “Of all the contemporary artistes, I really like what John Mayer and Ed Sheeran have written over the last couple of years, especially in their albums ‘Born and Raised’ and ‘X’. I guess what I am trying to say is that, these artists have managed to fearlessly put their music out there and not worry about their contemporaries."

When asked whether they feel the pinch of not having good consumption of their score as compared to their songs, Saraiya replied, “I do not think we have enough people who like consuming film scores and feel the same way about it as you and I, but yes, I do feel the pinch.” Sanghvi further added, “However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Music is now moving to smartphones. Everything is just a click away. So, if I like that one track, I can look it up and play it on my phone. But, I really feel that we need more people who not only acknowledge the importance of film scores, but also appreciate it."

Sachin-Jigar’s music will next be heard in the Varun Dhawan-starrer ‘Badlapur’.
