Blek's sabbatical ends with 'Byomkesh In Love', Spiro and upcoming single

MUMBAI: After nearly a year-long sabbatical, the three member power band- Blek is back touring and making new music. The sabbatical phase involved an interesting story which included director Dibakar Banerjee asking the band if it could improvise the track- 'Fog + Strobe' from its debut EP.

For the band, comprising Rishi Bradoo (guitar/vocals), Jared Juan Creado (bass/vocals) and Linford D’Souza (drums) who came together in 2011, this year started on a positive note. “I was out of the country for my studies when my old manager contacted me. He informed me that Dibakar Banerjee liked our track and wanted to use it in 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshy',” said Bradoo.

Blek worked on the track for couple of months before delivering the new version for 'Fog + Strobe', which is now called 'Byomkesh In Love' in the film. Sharing his experience on re-working the existing track, he said, “It was a different way to work. We were editing the track based on a scene in the film. It was a whole new experience.”

Like many Indie musicians, Bradoo shares a common view. “We come from the Indie space and will not venture into Bollywood space as I do not think that our Indie sounds will be inculcated in Bollywood films anytime soon,” he said. But the band will not shy away from giving their music to films that encourage their original sound.

Apart from 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshy', the band has other interesting things to share, which includes an untitled single that will be released by the end of April and a comeback tour. Blek will be seen performing at MTV Indies' Spiro which will kick-start with its first edition in Mumbai on April Fool's Day and will continue till 4 April 2015.

The band released their debut EP 'Hexes + Drama & Other Reasons for Evacuation' on 14 February 2012 and has since been one of the most buzzing acts in the Indian indie circuit. They were awarded the 'Best Emerging Artist' at Jack Daniel's Annual Rock Awards in 2013 and have performed at festivals like Ziro Festival, the G.O.D. Music Festival, Hornbill Music Festival and NH7 Weekender Festival.
