Benny Dayal: Performing at Royal Albert Hall "one of the biggest honours"

MUMBAI: Although 'Badtammez Dil' singer Benny Dayal has won a number of accolades for his music, his upcoming performance at the Royal Albert Hall for BBC Proms tops his list of honours. This will be the first time that Dayal will perform at the Royal Albert Hall, a performance which he labels as “one of the biggest honours”.

“Performing at the Royal Albert Hall with Philharmonic Orchestra in itself is something that would be an honour. It is not like a normal band or a regular concert that we do every day. To perform with an 80 piece orchestra and hear your music in a completely different manner, and lastly represent Asia, what more would an artist ask for. No words can actually describe this,” said Dayal.

Like Palak Muchhal, who will also perform at the Royal Albert Hall on 22 July, Dayal has long had his music played on the popular network. “They describe all my songs as hot and they love the songs that I have sung. Most of them are clubby, peppy and sound international. The guys from BBC have been very kind to me. Genre wise my songs have been pop and international,” he said.

The Royal Albert Hall is one of the most popular and prestigious concert venues, and has seen performances by stalwarts like Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Elton John and others. For Dayal it is one of the best moments of his life. “I really do not know what to say. So many of my musical heroes have performed there and just to step on the stage is a massive achievement,” he elucidated.

Dayal revealed that along with a set that includes his own tracks, he will also perform a cover of an AR Rahman song.
