Bassist Vivek Date to release first EP since going solo

MUMBAI: Influenced by old school rock n' roll and blues, Mumbai-based bassist Vivek Date plans to release a full-length studio album under his self-titled solo act. Date also confirmed that he is working on a full-length studio album with his new band Sweet Wine.

Date said that the first single from his solo project will be released by next month. He further added, “Right from recording the track to the mixing its sound, to adding effects to mastering; everything has been done by me. Purposely, I refrained from approaching a recording studio to record my tracks.” When asked what his solo project sounds like, Date described it as experimental rock n’ roll.

On his new band, Date informed, “We are only a week old, but we are already prepping for our debut record. It will consist of around seven to eight tracks, some of which would be originals, while the others would be covers.” Date further went on to talk about the major influence for the band, which is the British rock supergroup of the 1960s called Cream. “I love the blues and rock music of the 60s and 70s. I tend to be biased towards sounds of that era, especially since my personal favourite artists The Beach Boys and The Beatles belonged to that era,” added Date.

Date was previously associated with various bands such as Wintershift, a four piece rock n’ roll/alternative rock band, UV project, another four piece Hindi rock/progressive rock band, Music Unlimited, a six piece pop/progressive rock ensemble and the Nandu Bhende Band, which is a four piece hard rock/rock n’ roll band formed by Late Nandu Bhende and Keith Viegas. His solo original music is available for streaming on Soundcloud.
