Bann Chakraborty talks about the music making process of 'NH 10'

MUMBAI: Donning the hats of composer, lyricist and successful entrepreneur, Anirban Chakraborty, aka Bann Chakraborty, has come a long way in the music industry. Bann shot to fame when he composed the song ‘Mar Jaiyan’ for the film ‘Vicky Donor’ in 2012. Three years later he composed five tracks for the Anushka Sharma and Neil Bhoopalam starrer ‘NH 10’. It is not that he did not receive offers for composing films; but his business activities kept him far too busy to focus on music.

“I was offered a lot of films, but I was extremely busy with my work. I also thought that would only take up a project when I truly feel like taking up one,” explained Chakraborty. Bann and ‘NH 10’ director- Navdeep Singh were contemplating doing a project together for a long time, and finally managed that with ‘NH 10’. “I knew the story before I made the music. The film is about the intense emotion of a wife who later takes revenge from the killers of her husband. The music had to be made according to this. I had penned a few songs long ago, and we incorporated the same in the film,” he said.

Apart from the song ‘Chil Gaye Naina’, none of the songs have really been promoted. However, instead of cribbing about it, Chakraborty did his bit to promote the film’s music via social media. “You cannot crib about everything in life. As an artiste I would have loved if my music was promoted enough, but since it did not happen, I have no hard feelings against anyone. I asked my friend to shoot a video and put in on my page,” he explained.

While ‘Vicky Donor’ had a strong message about sperm donation put in a comical way, ‘NH 10’ has a dark flavour. However, it was not difficult for Bann to compose music for a film like ‘NH 10’ as he loved the project so much he knew that what kind of music was expected from him for it.

While composing the music for ‘NH 10’, all his singers were given utmost freedom to improvise on tracks and add their inputs. According to him it is very important to offer creative freedom, as artistes will grow only if they is willing to accept newer ideas.

The film ‘NH 10’ will hit the theatres on 6th March, 2015.
