AR Rahman, Sonu Nigam and Bickram Ghosh feature in the Oscar list

MUMBAI: Two-time Academy Award winner AR Rahman has once again made it to the long list of Oscar nominees. The singer/composer has made it to the list of 114 probables in category of 'Best Original Score'.


Rahman has been nominated for his music in Rajnikant's animated 'Kochadaiiyaan' and Hollywood films like 'The 100-Foot Journey' and 'Million Dollar Arm'.


Singer Sonu Nigam and percussionist Bickram Ghosh have also made it to the Oscar nomination list for their compositions in the movie 'Jal'. They were selected out of a list of 8000 entries. The duo has used a combination of Indian and international sounds with percussion.


Elated with the achievement, Nigam took to his Twitter account to inform his fans about the achievement posting, "Happy 2 see our names in the list of Oscar nominations for Jal. Thank you for wishes ladies and Gentlemen... :) means a lot. Big News !!! Now #Three Indian in #Oscar nomination List. @sonunigam, arrahman @bickramghosh #proud." (sic)


Ghosh also shared his excitement on his Facebook page saying, "Sonubhai and I first started our journey a duo film composers with Jal. So much hard work ! To be validated with an Oscar contention for our very first film is more than unbelievable! It's the grace of God!! Feeling really blessed and overwhelmed. Kudos to Rahman too who's there with us in the contention! Thanks to Girish Malik the director for his dedication and belief in us!!" (sic)


Out of the current 114 nominees, a final nomination list of just five will be announced on 15 January 2015, after which the award ceremony will be held on 22 February at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
