Anushka Manchanda says yes to providing vocals for more dance tracks

Although her days of pop singing are long gone, Anushka Manchanda has managed to carve an interesting space for herself in the Indian music world. The multi-talented musician/ VJ/ actress has sung for the Tamil music industry, as well as Bollywood, where she has worked with some of the biggest names like Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Vishal Shekhar, Pritam and Salim Sulaiman. More recently, she ventured into the indie electronica space, collaborating with Anish Sood and Nanok on the track ‘Superfly’.

In an interview with Radioandmusic.com, Manchanda talks about the collaborative track, the bonds she has formed with other indie artists and more.

How different was working on a dance music track as compared to working on pop music?

Honestly, I cannot say I have worked much on writing pop music, although I started my career singing Indi-pop with Viva. I love heavy, hard, electronic music, so this is actually a lighter track for me in terms of my writing. It was a very clean process, and it was lovely to work with Anish and Jai. I had a base to work with so I just wrote what fit the vibe of the music.

Who wrote the lyrics for 'Superfly’?

I did. I was thinking of summer when I wrote it, putting myself in a space where I was thinking of the vibe that the words breezy and languid brought to my mind.

Do you see yourself providing more vocals for dance music?

For sure. I think I have a feel for it!

Not long ago you revealed that you were working on music for a jingle. What's the progress on that?

The advertisement is on air now. It is for VLCC's new sunblock. I have started work with my brother Shikhar on our second commercial. In a way it is harder to do this than write your own music, because you are working according to someone else's brief, but it is also easier because you know when to stop.

What other music/ non-music projects do you have lined up?

I am writing some music and basically prepping and planning. There is another track I have sung on for one of my DJ/producer friends which should be out soon. And a video I am shooting now for one of my favourite directors. As usual, I cannot talk about it until it is out! As for my live shows, I am experimenting with something new. Like I said, I am in my planning stage right now.

You recently made some great comments about Saba Azad of Madboy Mink. Do you share that kind of rapport with any other artists?

Absolutely. There are many amazing artists from the indie scene whom I love, have worked with, and would love to work with. And I have known a lot of these musicians for years now. Someone I met recently and bonded with is Tipriti (Soulmate) whom I would absolutely love to do something with. We met at a shoot and connected instantly.

Which other indie artists would you like to work with?

Tipriti, like I said before, Donn Bhatt whose sound I am loving, Aqua Dominatrix, and someone whom I have not met- Big City Harmonics.

What is the one thing you would love to do (professionally or personally) that you have not yet done?

I have not done the concert of my life yet. I am working on it!
