Andrew Lloyd Webber to bring æSchool of RockÆ to Broadway

MUMBAI: Rock music fans may probably be seen making a beeline for Broadway to catch the stage version of the 'School of Rock'. On Thursday, 18 December 2014, producers said that the Broadway musical for the 2003 movie, which stars Jack Black, will open on 6 December 2015, with previews beginning from 2 November 2015.


The musical version of 'School of Rock' will also feature music written by English composer- Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, who is famed for his previous musicals like 'Cats', 'Evita' and 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Glenn Slater, who co-created the 2010 Disney hit- 'Tangled', will also pen new music which will be added to the show.


'School of Rock', the Broadway musical will follow the same storyline as the film, which includes a rocker who poses as a school teacher and enlists his students in a rock band contest. The film features music by a number of big rock names including Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Doors and The Black Keys.


Directing the musical will be Laurence Connor, who was co-director of the Broadway version of 'Les Miserables'. Julian Fellowes, who created the British drama series- 'Downtown Abbey' and wrote the stage musical for 'Mary Poppins', will pen the play, while JoAnn M Hunt will be in charge of choreography.
