Amit Raj: The colour of 'Classmates' is very different to 'Duniyadaari'

MUMBAI: 'Classmates' aspires to be the first Marathi hit of 2015, primarily because film's music. With almost six songs in the soundtrack, music director Amit Raj spoke to Radioandmusic.com about the tracks that have been composed and those that are still in development.

Of the songs produced, one is called 'Yaariyan', and Amit Raj says, "It is a very peppy, upbeat song well suited for the theme of the film." The film revolves around a bunch of college friends in final year of college. The film aims to pay a tribute to 'the good old days of college'. The song features vocals by Harsh Wagde and Amit Raj himself with lyrics by Mandar Cholkar.

Along with new college life, college elections also play an important role in the film. Amit Raj has composed two songs revolving around the elections. The first song is called 'Sawar Re' which takes place around the elections. Amit Raj calls the song reminiscent to timeless classic 'Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe' from 'Dil Chahta Hai'. Raj also stated, "The director, Aditya Sarpotdar knows exactly what sort of music he wants for the film."

The other election-themed song takes place before the elections. With lyrics are penned by Guru Thakur. Amit Raj feels, "This is yet untitled song that has the look and feel of the Bollywood film 'Yuva'". There are three more songs in the film, all melancholic says the composer. These songs are still in development. Also, the film's background score and who is composing has not yet been decided upon.

The music of the film will have its first music launch early December, with the first song 'Yaariya' airing next week on 28 October. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on 16 January.
