Advaita opening for Alt-J in New Delhi; to release new record in 2016

MUMBAI: Less than a month after performing in Egypt, Delhi-based fusion band- Advaita is scheduled to open for British indie rock band Alt-J on Thursday, 21 May along with Rajasthani singer/songwriter Prateek Kuhad. Since releasing their sophomore album – 'The Silent Sea’ in 2012, the band has only been performing at various places around the country and abroad, and celebrated its 10th anniversary last year.

In the three years since their last record, the band members have been constantly writing new material, confirmed guitarist Abhishek Mathur. "We have been writing lots of music, and have even premiered some of our new material at some live gigs," he said. When probed on when the band would release any of the new material, Mathur said, "We do not know whether we are releasing an EP or a full-length studio album, but with the new material, we plan to release the new record sometime in 2016."

Talking about the sound of the album, Mathur said, "The new record will have a very singular sound and will be different when compared to some of our previous works. Since we are a fusion band, each of us has different music influences. Through this new record, we are going to find a new meeting ground that brings all of these musical influences together and create something unique." Mathur further added that the new record will also have some electronic sounds. The songs in the new record will showcase major sound and lyrical influences from the band’s recent trip to Palampur, stated Mathur.

The bands previous studio albums, 'Grounded In Space’ (2009) and 'The Silent Sea’ (2012), both were released under Universal/EMI, and Mathur confirmed that the new record will also be released by Universal/EMI.

Mathur added that the band has plans to re-release their debut album 'Grounded In Space’ with added material, along with newly mastered sound. He said, "We gained popularity after we released our second album. Very few people have heard our earlier tracks, which is why we plan to re-release our first album, with new added material and better mastering."

The band is scheduled to open for Alt-J’s concert at New Delhi on 21 May. On opening for the Grammy Award nominated band, Mathur said, "All of us are huge Alt-J fans, and even though our genres are different, we are very excited to open for them. We are playing for less than an hour, but we have a very interesting set list."
