Adele, Amy Winehouse and James Blunt lead best-selling UK albums of the millennium

MUMBAI: British singer/ songwriter- Adele, known for her deep and emotive songs, has broken a yet another record with her Grammy winning album ‘21’. A new survey recently revealed that the sales for the album are close to 4.74 million, making it UK’s best selling artist album of the millennium.

The success of the 2011 release earned the singer numerous awards in 2012 including a record-tying six Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards and three American Music Awards.

Her album 21 was certified 16 times platinum in the UK and the US, selling 30 million copies worldwide. It held the top position for 23 weeks, longer than any album since 1985.

Adele even managed to outdo fellow Brit singer, the late Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’, which comes in second place on the Top 50 Official Biggest Selling Artist Albums of the Millennium. Since its release in 2006, the album has sold over 3.65 million copies.

In third place is James Blunt’s ‘Back To Bedlam’, which was released in late 2004. Leona Lewis’ ‘High Spirits’ follows in fourth, and Dido’s ‘No Angel’ earns a place in fifth position. Rounding up the top ten are Beatles’ ‘1’, Michael Buble’s ‘Crazy Love’, David Gray’s ‘White Ladder’, Lady Gaga’s ‘The Fame’ and finally Coldplay’s ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’ in the tenth place.
