Payal Dev collaborates with Punjabi singer B Praak for a sad love ballad 'Kyon'

MUMBAI: A multi-skilled singer-composer Payal Dev released a soulful sad love ballad with very touching heartbreak “Kyon” marking the first collaboration with Punjabi singer B Praak. The track was produced by her husband Aditya Dev, penned by Kunaal Vermaa

Payal shared that she made this tune a few years back, much before “Tum Hi Aana” from “Marjaavan”. “It has an old school melancholic melody with upbeat beats. Also, not many duet sad songs have been heard before, so the idea was to have a male and female voice. B Praak has done a fabulous job as all of his previous heart-breaking songs”.

Watch here:

When Payal creates melody, she doesn’t think about how it will sound, the final output, or who she should approach for this. Gradually she makes the tune, later she decides with her team what she will further do with the song, for “Kyon” she had composed the melody back then and since now a lot of music consumption is through independent music, so they decided to release this as a single.

Sharing her experience collaborating with Punjabi singer B Praak, “I am a huge fan of B Praak and all the more after I heard ‘Teri Metti from Kesari’. He has a great voice texture and he is a truly soulful singer and brings a song to life.  When this song was under process, I thought we should collaborate with B Praak because if we can plan any duet with him then, of course, he will give full justice to this sad and heart-breaking song. He was quite excited to be a part of the project too and dubbed this song at his place during the lockdown”.

Payal voiced the song as well as composed the music where she shares that she didn’t feel challenged because whenever she composes, the process of preparation is already half way. “I would be singing that particular composition and I usually know what I will need to do when/where and also what variation I will need to set the right feel. Usually, when you compose the song, singing comes naturally as you know the entire song, its progression, its mood and composition. It is because, with every composer, they have their own style”.

Payal Dev started her career as a playback singer and ventured into composing has given multiple Bollywood songs such as 'Kamariya Hila Rahi', ‘Mumbai Dilli Di Kudiyaan’, ‘The Jawaani Song’, ‘Yu Karke’ but ‘Genda Phool’ keeps the throne on this week’s Global YouTube Music Videos Chart. She composed music for one of the biggest hits of 2019 ‘Tum Hi Aana’ from ‘Marjaavaan’.

Lastly, for the future plans in terms with the rapidly growing music industry, the singer wishes to create good music, original content and collaborate with talented artists of our industry as we need more good music these days.
