Aabha Hanjura's 'Nundbane': An Ode to the Spirit of Kashmir

MUMBAI: Kashmiri folk-fusion artist Aabha Hanjura has unveiled “Nundbane,” the fifth single of her awaited album, Sound of Kashmir. The singer’s latest release is a festive song centred on Kashmiri traditions and history. The groovy folk-pop track borrows lyrics from the works of Mahmud Gami, a renowned poet of Kashmir’s golden age, conveying the abstract effects of love and romance.

Hanjura, a Qyuki creator, presents her signature ‘valley sound’ in “Nundbane,” melding the traditional, exultant rhythm of the track with evocative vocals. The accompanying contemporary instrumentals lend a unique folk-meets-pop vibe to the song. The melody of “Nundbane” perfectly captures the earthy, breezy, and pleasant scenery of beautiful land and Hanjura renders a transcendent image of ‘heaven on earth,’ Kashmir.

Excited about the release of “Nundbane,” Aabha Hanjura says, “I am excited about bringing out yet another single from my album ‘Sound Of Kashmir.’ This album is a love letter to Kashmir, every song in it explores my beloved land, through a musical soundscape. ‘Nundbane’ is rich with strings of love and romance that’s authentic to Kashmiri folklore. Yesteryear poet Mahmud Gami’s words build beautiful visual metaphors that transport you to the old world, where the idea of romance was pure and simple.

Hanjura adds, “I wanted to truly make the song of my own and render it the way we play it live. We have been performing this version with my band for some time now, and everywhere we've played the song, the crowd seems to love it. I’m excited about its release, and for the fact that it is now going to be live for the world to enjoy it!”
