Hollywood based young artist Sooraj to perform at Common Roots & IndieCraft online to raise support for COVID-19 hit families

MUMBAI: From learning piano at the age of one and a half, to finishing keyboard Grade 8 exam of Trinity College London at the age of 6, one of India’s youngest creative talent, Sooraj Bishnoi, will be entertaining people globally on 10th May as he performs Live for Common Roots at 12:30 am & IndieCraft at 7 pm. A singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arranger from Mumbai, India, he currently lives in Los Angeles, California. Common Roots is a festival that aims to raise support for COVID-19 hit families by standing up for the cause while spreading cheer even in the midst of madness. Indie Craft is organised by Independent musicians.

“I will be performing a 30-minute set at the Common Roots Festival with a mix of covers & originals from “The Actor”, “Nemesis”, City Beat, “Here We Go”. I messaged them and said I would like to perform and they enthusiastically replied. When I messaged I had no idea that stalwarts of the independent music scene such as Raghu Dixit would be on the same lineup. It came as a surprise and a huge honour”, shared an excited Sooraj.

The 24 year old USA based Indian singer, lyricist and composer further added, “I’m spending my time in lockdown writing new music, exploring new sounds and getting deeper into music production. I wanna return to India as soon as the lockdown is lifted and carry forward my hopes and dreams of all that I’ve learnt here in Hollywood. I also would really love to teach - be it music or any of my other passions such as photography, astronomy, natural history”.

Playing the keyboards since the age of one and a half, and the guitar and piano since age 9, Sooraj's musical journeys range from traditional Indian classical raags, to Mozart, to the likes of The Beatles and John Mayer. As a vocalist, Sooraj has performed with many bands as well as singing in acoustic/solo settings, choirs, a cappella groups, and theater productions. As an instrumentalist, he plays the keyboard, acoustic piano (classical and jazz), drums, guitars, violin and various hand-percussion instruments. Sooraj's debut music video "Nemesis" reached over 60,000 views on YouTube. He also released a crowd-sourced music video about his home city Mumbai, called "City Beat," which currently stands at 150,000 views on YouTube. He included both singles in his debut full-length LP titled "Here We Go," which released in February 2019. His most recently released music video for his song “The Actor” from the album garnered critical acclaim and currently stands at 750,000 views.

Sooraj currently lives in Hollywood, California and has performed as the keyboardist for artists Shay, KruthiSingar and Kendall Rucks & The Zodiac Mafia. He currently continues to write his own music and attempting to break through new avenues in songwriting and music production.
