Independent music helps me explore my musicality and grow as an artist: Prakriti Kakar

MUMBAI: T-Series’ initiative Mixtape has brought some interesting combinations and songs that has been receiving a positive response. The latest outing of singer Prakriti Kakar with Amaal Mallik on T-Series Mixtape Season 2 was loved by all. The duo crooned a medley of Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon and Dil Kyun Yeh Mera, which was applauded by the audience.

Prakriti shares why the songs are being loved, “The response is amazing as I keep reading YouTube comments and social media. Mine and Amaal’s first duet together on these two songs has really clicked. I have worked with him as a singer-composer, but this was a great experience. Also, both the songs are originally in a male voice. Therefore, it was a challenge for me to sing. Thankfully, they turned out to be well.”

After the success of her last single Sudhar Jaa that released in February 2019, Prakriti spills limited details about her upcoming single. She revealed, “It’s a very special concept. We have shot the video and can’t wait for its release as it’s very close to my heart. We would be able to share in next three weeks.”

Apart from her film music projects, Prakriti is happy to focus on her independent music too. The singer shares, “Film music is far more popular and has a monopoly, but it restricts you somewhere. Independent music gives me the scope to explore my own musicality and let me make the kind of music, I want to make and helps me grow as an artist also.”

The singer of songs like Tutiya Dil and Katra Katra has some special aspirations, and some of them she shares with us, “I have always said many times that I want to sing a full-fledged song with Pritam da. I have sung many jingles but I look forward to a song in a movie with him. And of course, singing for a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie would be a great honor.”

Prakriti also praises her elder sister and popular singer Akriti Kakar, “I am very fortunate to have a sister like her. There is not a single song that I think about is not first to pitch to her. It's only after her approval that we take the next step. She is our anchor.”
