Singer Sanah Moidutty comes up with her first ever Tamil Cover

MUMBAI: Sanah Moidutty, the voice behind tracks like Afeemi from Meri Pyaari Bindu, Tu hai and Sindhu Ma from Mohenjodaro, is well known for creating soulful covers of classic Bollywood and regional songs.

Sanah recently came out with her first ever Tamil cover of the classic song Kanmani Anbodu from Kamal Hassan starrer Guna. The evergreen track has been composed by Illayaraja and sung by S.Varalakshmi, K.J. Yesudas, S.Janaki and Kamal Hassan.

Commenting on the same, Sanah says "I always wanted to do a Tamil cover because I love Tamil music. I absolutely love, how the language sounds, even though I don't understand it completely. My band is from Chennai.  Hanging out and performing with them attracted me to Tamil a lot more and they always wanted me to try a Tamil song. After I started getting some appreciation for my Malayalam work, I thought it would be a good idea and also the right time to do Tamil now. As Malayali’s anyway love Tamil music, the song would also connect with new Tamil listeners."

"Kanmani Anbodu is a classic. It's a song that everyone absolutely loves. I really connect to this beautiful melody by Ilayaraja sir for its innocence and simplicity, that's how I decided that this should be my first Tamil cover," adds Sanah.

On sharing her experience while working on the cover, she says, “I was unwell when I recorded Kanmani, I thought I wouldn't be able to perform well behind the mic, but Prasanna Suresh, who has played keys and arranged this track, was present during the studio session and he really helped me bring out my best while singing and the recording session went well. I am really happy to see the appreciation for my rendition."

A source close to Sanah says it was the perfect song for Sanah to sing in Tamil, “After singing several covers, Sanah wanted to sing a Tamil track and what better a way to make your Tamil cover debut than a track which is still hugely popular among everyone.”

The singer’s decision of track bore fruit as she has been receiving rave reviews for her rendition of the track ever since it came out.
