A very powerful band is coming: Pradyumna Singh Manot on NCPA's Take 5.1

MUMBAI: NCPA's international jazz quartet, Take 5.1 is all set to take you on a Jazz tour, tomorrow, on the occasion of Independence Day. Slated to be held in Mumbai, the event will have four explosive performers, Pradyumna Singh Manot, Megan Powers, Sava Boyadzhiev, and Sonic Shori, who will be coming together, to play a night of bebop, hard bop, and modern jazz.

Speaking about their upcoming performance, Pradyumna Singh Manot said, “Basically, at the festival, we musicians, will be coming together, to perform on a lot of jazz and its various kinds. For example, there will be a ballet with tempo, uptempo, basinova, a lot of beautiful songs and stories to tell through the performances.”

On other musicians, who will be joining him at the venue, Pradyumna told, “My Jazz singer Megan Powers, who is coming from New York, is a terrific and emotional singer. Having a sensual voice, she sings with a lot of feeling. The bass player, Sonic, who is from Delhi, is also terrific and has an incredible technique. He is a thinker, who thinks about music very seriously. Lastly, the drummer, Sava Boyadzhiev from Bulgaria, is mind-blowing and a powerhouse. Thus, a very powerful band that is coming to the festival.”

While Megan gets inspiration from the likes of Sarah Vaughan and Betty Carter, Sava is inspired by Jimmy Cobb and Elvin Jones. Pradyumna’d favourite remain Keith Jarrett and Danilo Perez, while Sonic scores for Ron Carter and John Pattituci.

Pradyumna, who is also the founder of three bands, namely 4 On A Swing, Poko Logo and Los Amigos, signed off not before telling the reason for founding multiple bands. He said, “I wanted to explore all the things in depth when it comes to Jazz and its forms.”

Pradyumna Singh Manot a.k.a Paddy is one of India's leading Latin jazz pianists and an ICCR impaneled artist. Over 18 years, he has performed at numerous venues and festivals across the world, notably, Java Jazz Festival, Panama Jazz Festival, The Danilo Perez Jazz Club, NCPA Jazz Festival, ICCR Delhi International Jazz Festival etc.
