Los Angeles based Megan Murray to perform in Mumbai

MUMBAI: An Indian origin songwriter-singer, Megan Murray, based in Los Angeles is all set to present her music at The Quarter this Saturday.

The singer has expertise in rock, and funk, but finds peace in performing blues and souls. Genres that aren’t that popular in India. "India actually has a wide audience for these genres.  The Mahindra Blues Festival running for seven years is a great example," explains the artiste.

She is looking forward to present her performance at The Quarter, "The Quarter is currently Mumbai's premier live performance space and I am thrilled and honoured to perform on a stage that has been graced by so many talented musicians-both national and international, many of whom I look upto."

Seeking inspiration from her father Megan started pursuing music, " He filled my ears with some of the best music of all time. He exposed me to various genres and artistes ever since I was born. He also showed me what it was to actual 'listen' and 'feel' music."

Being of Indian origin and a true music lover, Megan enjoys Indian music too. "Of whatever Indian Music I follow, it's mostly Old School Hindustani Classical Music. I am still not well versed with it but I love the sounds and tones of it. I love listening to ragas and incorporate some of them in my own music."

Explaining the slight disconnect Megan says, "It's still a discovery as I grew up on Western/English music but Indian music is just beautiful. I would love to learn Carnatic music while I am here."

Looking forward, Megan shares, "I have a few projects in the pipeline. One of them would be in New Orleans. Also, work on my new EP is in progress."
