I choose music over singing or composing: Tushar Joshi

MUMBAI: The Race anthem, Allah Duhai Hai, is carried forward in the third instalment of the movie too. The earlier tracks were composed by ace composer Pritam. This time however, as Pritam was pre-occupied, he decided to pass the baton to his own protégé, Tushar Joshi.

“I have been an assistant to Pritam da for over two years now. And have worked with him as a part of his venture Jam 8, so I know how he works. This time, when the Race 3 team approached him, he called me and asked to compose the music for Allah Duhai Hai.”

To compose a track that has enthralled the audience previously is a task, more so, when the original composer is your mentor. “It all depends on your musicianship. I have not taken any pressure and just followed what I felt,” shares Tushar.

The response, however, has been mammoth with over 16 million views within just five days of its release. “Certainly, the response has been overwhelming and encouraging,” the singer turned composer said.

The amazing part is that Tushar has been a singer before composing this track. His first claim to fame was being Ranbir Kapoor's voice in Jagaa Jasoos. He composed the track all by himself for the first time. “When I came to Pritam da in 2016, I did all the scratches for Jagga Jasoos songs. Then I also sang for Jab Harry Met Sejal. Ever since then, I have been with da and learnt a lot from him.”

The singer, who hails from Jabalpur, came to Mumbai in 2008. On this, he said, “Like everyone else, I struggled my way.” He, however, has his focus bang on, whether he wants to pursue composing or continue singing. “I have been a singer for a long time now. I have sung a lot for YouTube channel. But this was a great opportunity to compose and that too for such a blockbuster. However, I choose music over singing or composing. Singing and composing are two different mediums, but music is the main thing.”

On future projects, Tushar says, “I am singing for a lot of movies, but as of now can’t confirm and will share as and when there is something concrete.”
