I have never visited India, but looking forward to visit it this year: Bom Diggy fame Jasmin Walia

MUMBAI: We have seen the magic of Bom Diggy Diggy. And now that team is back with a sensational music video Sahara. Jasmin Walia, a British Indian singer, also known for her television appearance on The Only Way Is Essex, has recently released her single called Sahara featuring herself in the video.

Jasmin, who is born and brought in The United Kingdom, started her singing career in 2016 with a single called Dum Dum Dee Dee, however it was her track Bom Diggy Diggy that put her on the map and made her famous with Indian audiences.

“I want to thank T-Series for including the track Bom Diggy Diggy in a Bollywood movie (Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety). I am excited to release more music and collaboration,” said the singer. The single was reworked a bit by Zack Knight, the producer of the song and put up in the movie, which became an instant hit.

The collaboration with Zack Knight continues even with Sahara, “We were sitting in a studio, while we spoke about Sahara. I gave Zack my thoughts and he put together the track. It has turned out pretty good.” Well, it clearly has, given that the track released on her YouTube channel has garnered over four million views.

Speaking of music producer Zack Knight, Jasmin says, “I met him three years ago for a business meeting, only to realise we share the same neighbourhood. It has been great working with him, as he exactly knows and understands what I want. He is extremely talented.”

About the concept of the song, which also brings the trend of story-based music videos, Jasmin says, “The story is about a womaniser and how some girls gang up and bring him. Unfortunately, we live in a male dominated world, so it’s about how much women can have if they are together.”

Till now her journey has been a learning experience, “I haven’t released lot of my music. But what I am learning is take it easy and remember that there is a lot to come forward, so I can take few risks. I like taking risks.”

Though Bom Diggy Diggy, which was released through Saavn Music in August 2017, received a cool 70 million views by March 2018, she is overwhelmed by the response received for Sahara. “I am actually both surprised and shocked and can’t thank the audience enough.”

Jasmin, who has Indian roots, has strangely never visited India. “I have never visited India, but looking forward to visiting it this year. We are working on my visit there. I am really looking forward to experience the country and be closer to the roots.”

Jasmin started singing young, “I used to just sing in front of my family and my father took me to singing classes and thereon I got into it.”

What’s surprising is that Jasmin didn’t know Hindi or Punjabi, “I had never sung in Hindi or Punjabi. So, until 10 months ago, I was quite unfamiliar with the languages.”

Considering her hot appearance in the video, asking about Bollywood plans is evident, not just for singing but acting too, and pat comes the reply, “I would love to.”
