21st Edition of Artie's Festival Mumbai Bound this Month end at NCPA

MUMBAI: Music is the biggest reason for the world to become Glocal, as the music has been transcending the geographical boundaries for years together. One such example is the upcoming Artie’s Festival, as it returns for its 21st edition after travelling through China, Kazakhstan, the Gulf and, Europe.

The festival that is to be held in National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) features the Olivier Patey. He would be returning to the festival after a long time, due to his commitment as principal clarinet of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the programme will be centred on the most famous chamber music for clarinet and strings. Oliver Patey, a regular at Opéra de Paris and with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, has also been a part of  the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in Berlin, where he was appointed principal in 2009. He has also been a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and (from 2012 to 2013) principal clarinetist of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. In August 2013 he joined the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

As a collaboration between Artie’s Festival and the SOI musicians, Volta Quartet and Emmanuel Christien will join Artie’s for Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht Op. 4, which will be performed in its original string sextet version. Emmanuel Christien is one of France’s most diverse young pianists. A bursary laureate of the Mécénat Musical Société Générale for 2007-2008, he has performed and participated in masterclasses with celebrated musicians and personalities including Jean-Philippe Collard, Paul Badura-Skoda, Ann Quéffelec, Jean-Claude Pennetier and Aldo Ciccolini, to name but a few.

National Centre for Performing Art (NCPA), is always known to curate and present unique and innovative concerts. The 21st edition of Artie’s Festival at NCPA is certainly something to look forward to.

“We at the NCPA are thrilled to host the 21st edition of the upcoming Artie’s Festival. Olivier Patey, considered one of the best clarinetists of the new generation will be gracing us with his expertise along with the Volta Quartet and Emmanuel Christien. We are delighted that for the first time members of the SOI will also join Artie’s musicians for a performance of Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll. The festival, like each year will include a wide array of well-known classics, as well as lesser-heard compositions of chamber music, while keeping up with the idea of presenting a fresh selection,” said Khushroo  Suntook, chairman and co-founder of Symphony of India (SOI).
