The Madras Gig to help south India's indie music talents

MUMBAI: Global music company Sony Music and South Indias post-production facility Knack Studios have collaborated for The Madras Gig, which is a platform for indie talent across South India.

Through this, the two brands aim at making indie music more accessible while also presenting fans with talent which are yet unexplored.

The same will be mentored by musicians and music producers from the Tamil film industry.

The objective is for Sony Music, Knack Studios and the talent to jointly create a line-up of quality musicians.

"The Madras Gig launched and backed by Anirudh Ravichander and many other popular artists from the music industry, is a distinctive proposition for young and upcoming talent to get together and create sounds that are unique," Sony Music India head South Ashok Parwani said in a statement.

"We believe there is a slew of artistes in south India who are extremely talented and need a right platform to exhibit their talents. We are inviting entries and are confident that there will definitely be some great music created."

The Madras Gig season will comprise re-imagined versions of popular songs from the Sony Music catalogue and original content in order to make for a mix of new and familiar content.

Knack Studios president and co-founder Harish Raam LH said: "We at Knack Studios have always had a passion for providing a world class platform for independent music and feel that The Madras Gig will be a cornerstone in realizing that dream. This collaboration with Sony Music is exciting as they will provide the perfect reach for the artists while we offer our state of the art facility, ensuring a world class product."
