Safaigiri 2017: Singers speak about cleanliness

MUMBAI: India Today had organised Safaigiri campaign 2017. The event was held on the occasion of the ‘Father of the nation’, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, 2 October 2017. At the event, many singers spoke about ‘cleanliness’, which our country has to take into consideration. However, the event was not all preachy; there was also an element of entertainment.

Madhushree wowed the audience with her melodious rendition of Kanha So Ja Zara from Baahubali 2The Conclusion. After that applaudable entry, she talked about cleanliness and said that we, as citizens, should do everything in our capacity to keep our country clean.

Madhushree also talked about her admiration for Lata Mangeshkar. "Her talent and tonal quality are unmatched," she said, adding that she still learns something new every time she listens to a song of the legendary singer. She also crooned her popular songs like Kabhi Neem Neem from Yuva and Tu Bin Bataye from Rang De Basanti. She made her entry into the hearts of Bollywood fans with Love You Zindagi and Kidre Jawan.

Singer Jasleen who made her journey from Ludhiana to Mumbai urged people to keep the country clean. She said that a lot many are making the change, and is hopeful that people will keep inspiring each other. The 26-year-old is one of the few female composers who are taking the music industry by storm. From Raatein in Shivaay to Love You Zindagi in Dear Zindagi, Jasleen crooned some of her favourites at Safaigiri 2017.

Rapper Fazilpuria of Kar Gayi Chul fame enthralled the audience with his hit songs at Safaigiri Awards 2017.  Fazilpuria backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Swachh Bharat. When he was asked about whether he maintains the cleanliness he advocates in the lyrics of his songs, Fazilpuria said, "Bilkul, main saaf-suthre gaane banata hoon. Soch saaf honi chahiye, phir lyrics hi saaf lagte hai."

Hailing from the village Fazilpur in Haryana, the rapper wanted to make his village proud. This is the reason why he incorporated the name of his village in his name. Fazilpuria suggested the youth to come up with ‘creative ideas’ to promote cleanliness. He said that anyone can take to the streets with a broom, but innovation is the need of the hour.

Rashke Kamar singer Tulsi Kumar, who made her way to India Today Safaigiri Awards 2017, said that it was our responsibility to keep our country clean, just like we ensure our cars are spotless. If our roads are dirty, all citizens are affected. For instance, it becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Talking about what personal initiatives she has taken to maintain cleanliness, the singer said "Personally, I do not litter. I also promote cleanliness through the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) division of my company, T-Series, and my academy, T-Series Stageworks."

“Open defecation can end only by spreading education,” Tulsi Kumar believes. She also said that if Bollywood celebrities lend their support to cleanliness campaigns, it would inspire citizens to follow their footsteps. The singer also enthralled the audience with some of her hit songs like Mere Rashke Kamar and Soch Na Sake.
