23 Artists who earned MTV's Vanguard Award for killer music videos before Pink did

MUMBAI: Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award is an award given by MTV Video Music Awards  (MTV VMA) to music performers in recognition for their accomplishments in the fields of film and music. The award was first presented in the year 1984 to David Bowie for China Girl at the inaugural VMAs.

The MTV VMA is given to music video directors who have created some of the most sought to music video aired by the network. In recent times this life time achievement award has been given to Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Kanye West and Rihanna for their excellent work.

On 27 August Pink will be joining the pantheon of Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recipients when she will accept the honour at the MTV VMA 2017.  Pink, a six-time VMA winner and three-time Grammy winner, is following in the footsteps of previous iconic recipients such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, U2, Guns N' Roses, Beyoncé and more.

The coveted Video Vanguard Award is a lifetime-achievement accolade honouring artists for their groundbreaking music videos. Here are all the past artists who have received the award since its inception in 1984. The list only lists performers, but directors have also earned the accolade, including Hype Williams, Mark Romanek, Wayne Isham, Julien Temple, Zbigniew Rybczy?ski, Russell Mulcahy Kevin Godley, Lol Creme and Richard Lester.
