Being called blind in spite of being visually sound is bad: Singer Priyani Vani

MUMBAI: Bollywood playback singer Priyani Vani who has lent her voice to PayersFerrari Ki Sawari and Thank You has been trying to get an industry misunderstanding off her back for a while now. The confusion started with her cover version of Isharo Isharo Mein going viral.

The video featuring Abhas Joshi and Vani received a lot of appreciation but something uncalled for too happened. Many assumed the singer to be blind because they weren’t looking into the camera.

It first started with a random group, stating that the singers were blind, and this soon spread like wildfire. Everyone started showing sympathy towards the singers. In fact, well-known celebrities, Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher too went on to put some caring tweets about them.

“All of a sudden everyone was so appreciative of our work. Even the celebrities went on to notice the single because they felt we were blind. But, being called blind in spite of being visually sound is bad. Today when you Google our names, it comes as blind singers, which is heartbreaking,” said Vani.

Priyani was one of the contestants of Star Plus’s popular singing reality show Amul Star Voice Of India, where she was the only woman to have reached the finals. She has also done reality shows like Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar, Bol Baby Bol and acted in in Sab TVs Tota Weds Maina.

Her future projects include a single Mahiya along with Tochi Raina. She is also working with her husband Ashish Pandit, who will be a launching a new label called Falsetto.
