Birthday Special: 10 facts that you should know about Mohit Chauhan

MUMBAI: Mohit Chauhan, the soulful singer, known for his songs such as 'Khoon Chala', 'Tu Ne Jo Na Kaha' and 'Masakali' from the films 'Rang De Basanti', 'New York' and 'Delhi-6' respectively, turns 52 today. We at Radioandmusic.com thought of sharing some facts about Mohit Chauhan that you should be familiar with.

· Apart from being a playback singer for Bollywood, he was former front-man of the Indipop band Silk Route and released two albums Boondein and Pehchan.

· Chauhan doesn’t have a formal training in music, but the self-taught musician sings, can play the guitar, harmonica and the flute.

· After Silk Route dissolved, his comeback was with the song ‘Guncha’ for the film ‘Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh’ (2005).

· He wanted to be an actor before making it big as a musician.

· Chauhan's career in Bollywood began in 2002 with the song ‘Pehli Nazar Mein Dari Thi’ from the movie ‘Road’, though his rise to fame was ‘Tum Se Hi’ (Jab We Met).

· Mohit’s solo album ‘Kalam’ was a unique anthology of poems written by the former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

· Apart from singing in Hindi, Chauhan has also lent his voice in a Bengali movie ‘Sedin Dekha Hoyechilo’ and he sang his second Bengali song for the movie ‘Paglu’.

· Apart from film playback singing, Chauhan has sung many ad jingles for Alpenlibe, Parachute, Wheel (detergent), Nescafe, Hippo Munchies, Vicks VapoRub, Alchemist, and Maruti Suzuki Alto among others.

· Did you know that he took part in a singing reality show, Mission Ustaad on 9X, where he teamed with Vasundhara Das in 2007?

· In 2011, he collaborated with the Indian Ocean for the song called Maaya, and it was featured in the third episode of The Dewarists.
