Tony who started his musical career at seven did not have a very smooth childhood. The youngest brother of Bollywood playback singers Neha Kakkar and Sonu Kakkar, Tony joined his siblings as a Jagrata singer to support their family financially. He along with his now famous sisters continued to sing at Jagrata festivals from 1993 to 2003.

Growing up together and helping the family in critical situations created a special bond amongst the siblings. “Initially I stayed more with didi (Sonu Kakkar) and these days I am with Neha. Our bond is so strong that we are three bodies one soul who are absolutely in sync. I don’t think other siblings must have spent so much time together, as we did,” stated Tony.

Tony aka Vipin Kakkar initially managed Sonu and Neha and when the two settled in their musical careers, he started concentrating on his. “I have been a responsible brother. I helped them with their careers. Sonu didi calls me her ‘chotu guru’ because we have learned from each other,” said Tony.

Focusing on his own music was one of the most important things for Tony. The composer-singer, who has studied till class 12, was more interested in being a Rockstar than an academic topper. Today, Tony is living his dream to an extent and while, he is yet to make it ‘larger than life’ in the music space, he dreams to direct a film someday. He is looking at pursuing his direction dreams at 50, but the practice has already begun. The singer continues to write small stories that probably may not see the light of day now, but they will definitely help Tony in fulfilling his long-term dream.

Furthermore, while most music composers have a specific place of creating music compositions, Tony can create then on the go. His brain kicks ideas while he is travelling, in a club or just after he is up from sleep. One of his favourite places is Leaping Windows Coffee Shop.

Lastly, he stated that his musical journey would remain incomplete without music maestro AR Rahman and Amit Trivedi. He is eagerly waiting for an opportunity to collaborate with them.
