MUMBAI: In mid 2016, we thought that Dharma Productions owner Karan Johar had explored TV in the best possible way.

He had excelled as a chat show host with ‘Koffee With Karan’, as a judge on a dance and talent show with ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ and ‘India’s Got Talent’. So, what more could have he explored? This is exactly when Star Plus’ upcoming singing reality show ‘Dil Hai Hindustani’ happened.

Who had thought that the ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ maker could scout singing talent from across the globe? In fact, Johar himself went on to admit that when it comes to singing he is zero at the ‘Dil Hai Hindustani’ press conference. “The other talented judges – Shekhar Ravjiani, Sahlmali Kholgade, Badshah -- on the panel will judge the technicalities. I will look out for the X-factor in them,” said Johar. Now, that is pure honesty.

Singer-music composer Shekhar Ravjiani begged to differ on Johar’s confession of his musical expertise. He stated, “Karan understands songs more than us. He even understands the high and the low keys that is why ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ has the best soundtrack of the year.”

One of the major reasons for Johar signing the dotted lines was the uniqueness that ‘Dil Hai Hindustani’ brings. The show promises to be a musical extravaganza showcasing phenomenal solo, duet and group performances from across the globe.

Johar also gave an insight to his musical side as he said, “I started listening to Bollywood music at the age of four. I am 44 now, so I have 40 years of musical experience.”

He further revealed that a lot of talent on ‘Dil Hai Hindustani’ has been roped in from YouTube. “A lot of our talents were viral sensations and every time I find these talented people, I am amazed.”

‘Dil Hai Hindustani’ will be hosted by viral sensation Jumbo Jutt’s.
