Shankar Mahadevan becomes artist in residence at The Berklee Indian Ensemble

MUMBAI: The ace Indian classical musician Shankar Mahadevan doesn’t really need any introduction. Mahadevan is all set to add another feather to his cap. As the artist in residence this December at The Berklee Indian Ensemble, he will perform with the ensemble in the group’s sold-out Berklee Signature Series concert, ‘Shankar Mahadevan Meets Berklee’, on Tuesday, 13 December 2016, at 8 pm at the Berklee Performance Center.

Founded in 2011 with 18 students, the Berklee Indian Ensemble is a dynamic group of students representing more than 40 countries, and now the group now features more than 40 musicians for each concert. Berklee Indian Ensemble will host Indian master vocalist and composer Shankar Mahadevan as the artist in residence in the month of December 2016. The concert will also be globally available via a live stream.

They group also aggregated more than 19 million views on YouTube with their viral music videos. The ensemble has been featured throughout the United States at various festivals and music venues and has travelled to Bengaluru, India, to perform at one of India’s most prestigious music festivals, Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava, this past September 2016.

In addition, Indian vocalist, composer, and producer Clinton Cerejo, Grammy and Academy award–winning composer A R Rahman, and master vocal improviser Vijay Prakash have been artists in residence with the Berklee Indian Ensemble earlier.
