Floating Points, Roman Flugel to perform at 4th edition of Magnetic Fields

MUMBAI: With 'navigation' as the theme for its fourth edition, Magnetic Fields – supported by Red Bull Music Academy – has announced the first wave of its line-up. British neuroscientist Sam Shephard, who performs under the electronic musician avatar Floating Points, will make his Indian debut at the independent music festival’s home, Alsisar Mahal, Rajasthan.

The three-day music and arts festival – to be held from 9 to 11 December 2016 – renews its collaboration with Red Bull Music Academy – independent music’s most iconic global patron – for its 2016 edition.

Producing music for two decades, German heavyweight electronic music producer Roman Flugel will join Shephard on the Red Bull Music Academy North Stage. Flugel, like Shephard, will be debuting on Indian soil with Magnetic Fields.

Veteran dubstep initiator Pinch and RBMA 2016 selectee Bengaluru-based producer Oceantied (who has been selected to attend the Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal this year, alongside The Sine Painter) will enthral the fans during the three-day festival.

Japanese experimental electronica artist Daisuke Tunabe, percussionist Sarathy Korwar’s full live show revolving around his debut album ‘Day to Day’ (Sidi chants meet Jazz) and London-based hip hop act Livin’ Proof’s secret after-party will count as other added perks of attending the festival this year.

Performing on the south stage would be Austrian keyboardist Dorian Concept, who will find company in the form of singer-songwriter Prateek Kuhad, Delhi’s pyschedelia act Begum and a collaborative act featuring Nikhil Narendra and Shreyas Dipali.

Mumbai-based ambient duo Sahil Sharma and Nakul Sharma’s project Burudu will open the festival on Friday.

Newly built BFR Soundsystem will embrace the Desert Disco Stage for the first time for an exclusive line-up that includes Delhi Sultanate, Begum X and Dakta Dub.

The emphasis on the utilisation of materials like reclaimed wood, bamboo, handmade paper and muslin will help Magnetic Fields justify and illustrate the theme of ‘navigation’.

Morning Yogas and workshops, star gazing, treasure hunt and other consistent features return to the fourth edition, in the continued effort to ensure Magnetic Fields’ experience transcends beyond electronic music.

More additions to the Red Bull Music Academy North stage will be announced at a later date.
