I did not expect people to like my voice: Vayu

MUMBAI: The entire nation is up for one challenge and that is the 'Beat Pe Booty Challenge'. The challenge spread like wildfire, so much that we had to watch KRK dance to ‘Beat Pe Booty’, not that we wished for it. But, one thing that’s clear is that the words and tune of this song have managed to reach every corner of our country. And one man who can’t keep away from smiling with the songs success is singer-lyricist Vayu.

Vayu who got onboard with music composers Sachin-Jigar never thought that people would like his lyrics. In fact, he felt he would be baited for having written such lyrics. Thus, he gives most of the songs success credit to ‘Beat Pe Booty’ challenge. However, he also feels that no product can be a success if it’s not worth it.

So, how did the song happen? “When we started working on the song there was no thought of impressing anyone. During this time I picked the hook line ‘Beat Pe Booty’. We later played it to Remo (D’souza) and the song got approved in one meeting. Kanika Kapoor was roped in at the last minute,” stated the lyricist.

Vayu has also sung the rap portion of the song. Something that he feared to do for he believes that his range is limited. “I did not expect people to like my voice. But, I believe Sachin-Jigar know their job well and they made it work. I have been getting singing offers since, the release of this song,” confessed he.

Though the offers have been pouring in, Vayu makes it a point to flash a disclaimer that reads, ‘Getting Vayu to sing is injurious to health’. Now, that’s indeed hilarious!

The lyricist is now, busy writing a few wacky songs for Tanishk Bagchi. The pair is best known for their song ‘Banno’ from ‘Tanu Weds Manu’.
