Swarathma: The People's Band

MUMBAI: Every time a metro train arrives at the station, a sudden atmosphere filled with weary, exhausted, anxious and most often disinterested emotions welcome the commuters. In Bengaluru, however lately, a bunch of musicians possessing varied colours on their clothes and diverse expressions on the face - often excited and curious - have occupied the metro trains holding musical instruments.

Swarathma, the popular Bengaluru-based folk band, has recorded the live sessions inside their metro 'gigs' and uploaded it on their official page on social media accounts. In fact, on 22 July, the band live streamed the eight-minute-long jam on Facebook live.

The last week's activity surely was not the first time for Swarathma. The band had regularly executed such 'jams' in the metro trains earlier. The lack of mobile network and the crowd acts an hindrance, however, the band did stick to its promise and live streamed the entire performance.

With an intention to make "public spaces more alive, the band continued this approach on streets, airports and random spots. The band travels across the country for proper gigs and concerts, and these activities also ensures more music from them.

In 2011, Swarathma visited a blind school as an attempt to reach out to an audience that usually do not have the necessary resources to attend live music venues.
