Suraj Jagan gives a modern spin to 1978 hit track 'Mana Ho Tum'

MUMBAI: Suraj Jagan has not watched the 1978 film 'Toote Khilone'. But why should that stop him from recreating one of the best known songs from the film, 'Mana Ho Tum Behad Haseen'?

Jagan, one of the pioneers of the rock music movement in India, recently released a music video recreating 'Mana Ho Tum Behad Haseen' in his unique style. His friend Rohit Bhushan did the musical rearrangements. Directed and edited by Kartik Rathod, this re-interpretation comes with a strong message and the pensive video was shot in a single take.

The original 'Mana Ho Tum Behad Haseen' was originally sung by KJ Yesudas and written by Kaifi Azmi. The film was directed by Ketan Anand and the song was picturised on the leads Shekhar Kapur and Shabana Azmi.

Says Suraj, “I’ve heard the song when I was a kid, though I haven’t seen the movie yet. I have always liked the melody and it brought back a lot of memories. I did the rendition differently as I feel the original tune was suitable for that era. The idea of re-interpretation was completely mine and one of my friends Rohit Bhushan played the guitar and other instruments.”

About his upcoming projects, the ‘Give Me Some Sunshine’ singer said, “Music is my bread and butter. I am working on some tracks and I will release an entire album once I am done with all the arrangements. I hope I will be able to complete the tracks before September. Times have changed, music albums are not heard as albums, but I am an old school person when it comes to music. I haven’t talked to any record label or distributors, I am waiting for the right time to come.”
