Hard Kaur ends dry spell with 'Sherni'

MUMBAI: There's more to Hard Kaur than just party songs.

The hip-hopper may have grabbed her share of the limelight as a party song queen, but there's more this spunky singer wants to explore.

In fact, Kaur has taken a step into a new musical direction with her upcoming single 'Sherni'. The track, being produced by Kaur's label Future Records India in association with Team DG, talks about about women empowerment instead of the usual staple of alcohol, parties, girls or dancing.

The 'Char Baj Gaye' singer will be talking about 'real' issues in this one. Things that make or break one as a woman. And as a woman she wants every lady to rise and say a 'no' to all the injustice that is being done in this world.

"We are not going to accept being judged by what we wear, the way we look or the things we do. We will have to put our foot down when we are paid lesser than men doing the same job," says the 'Aise Karte Hai Party' singer explaining the sentiment behind her upcoming single.

One would wonder why Kaur has decided to take up a social issue after all these years, but then this is something that she always wanted to do. In fact, she had crooned this number four years ago. "I have been a part of this industry for nine years, but I could not come up with a song of my heart because nobody supported it. 'Sherni' stayed on the backburner for four years because there was no support."

"Party songs are and were always easy to sell. But, as a singer, I wanted some satisfaction. Hence, I came up with 'Sherni'. I have invested in it because I could not get anybody to support it. This song is also something that my mother wanted me to do. She kept asking when I would create something more real. So, here it is," explains the 'move Your Body' singer.

All that the rapper expects this song to is carry the right message to the people. "I just want my feelings to reach out there," says Kaur, aware that she cannot expect much monetary return on this independent number.

"I would like to get more opportunities to sing songs like 'Kattey'. I sang it for Coke Studio," says the artiste. The track was later used in 'The Angry Indian Goddesses'.

The upcoming track will be a hip-hop number and Hard Kaur will be seen sporting an outfit designed by designer Priya Kataria Puri for Madonna.

'Sherni' will release on 26 July 2016. The song video will be available for viewing on Kaur's YouTube channel 'Hard Kaur World'. The audio track will also be exclusively available on Saavn from 26 to 28 July 2016.
