MTV's 'Angels of Rock' to celebrate spirit of womanhood

MUMBAI: MTV is geared up to begin an impactful journey to celebrate women empowerment with its brand new show, 'Angels of Rock'. This is a show that celebrates the women, their stories of empowerment, self-belief, and their incredible journey. The show will see four rock-stars, Shalmali Kholgade, Anusha Mani, Jasmine Sandlas and Akasa Singh who will be riding across the country to inspire and draw inspiration from the nation’s women.

Commenting on the same, Shalmali Kholgade, the ‘Pareshaan’ singer said, “It came to me by chance, I wasn’t sure whether I should do the show or not. I have done three songs and I am really excited as this will be my first composition. You will get to hear my song in the first episode which is a pop number and you can sing along with me. One of the further episodes I have done a Reggae and Punjabi flavored song which is very groovy and a little bit of westernized because of the Reggae elements. We had a band of four girls who were traveling with us and helped us to structure the songs.”

Speaking of setting out on the journey with Angels of Rock, Anusha Mani said, “I got the proposal of Angles of Rock last year and it blew my mind. I haven’t heard a concept like this before and as an artist to be able to do music and also travel (I learned to ride the bike and traveled for 25 days for the show). We traveled on a bullet all the way from Mumbai to Gujarat and Punjab, met several women from different corners and the journey was really fulfilling as we got to interact with women who have brought a wave of change in our country through their endeavors. The story is about those women who are doing something in their own way and our job is making music for them.”

“The songs are based on the lives of those women we meet. There will be different types of songs. I have composed a song which is a kind of Rajasthani folk; we tried to incorporate the sound and essence of the place and person. Apart from the Rajasthani folk, I have composed a ballad ‘Mai’ which is basically for a female Sarpanch, and the last song of our journey ‘Raahi’ which is basically about traveling and travelers,” added Anusha.

About being a part of Angels of Rock, Akasa Singh thinks that it’s going to be one of a kind show that blends music, travel, and women empowerment together. In addition, the show will break the stereotypical ideas about women too.

“I have composed two songs for the first time intended for women Firefighters and women hockey players from Haryana. The song which is for the Hockey players is proper rap along with some Haryanvi essentials so that people from that place can connect. What excites me the most is that the show will not only revolve around the four of us making music but it will also portray the impactful stories of the women of our country,” said Akasa Singh.

Elaborating on the unique concept of the show, Viacom18 Head, Ferzad Palia said, “MTV always has its finger on the pulse of the youth. The show focuses on inspiring stories of real women blended with travel, fun, and a whole lot of music created by four amazing singers.”

The show will air from 31 July 2016, every Sunday at 8 pm.
