Daler Mehndi receives Bharat Seva Ratna Award

MUMBAI: Pop singer Daler Mehndi receives Bharat Sewa Ratna Award for exemplary services towards environment by planting trees.

“It is very gratifying receiving such recognition. We started in 1998 when I went for a concert in Bahrain followed by Dubai. What I see, the people are trying to dig out green wonders from the arid lands. The visionary moved me and I got inspired to do the same for my own country. Although it took a complete year to ensure my own saplings and get the knowledge about environment, ultimately planted almost eight lacs trees in Delhi,” says Daler Mehndi.

On husband’s achievement, Daler’s wife Taranpreet Kaur says, “It is such a blissful experience. I am glad at least somewhere, the efforts are being acknowledged. We should plant more trees and spread the awareness universally of protecting the environment. In fact, where ever we go, we rather prefer gifting people plants, be it a concert or the occasion of Diwali.”

This is not the only thing the Punjabi singer has done so far. Apart from his concern for environment, the singer also runs a 24 hours kitchen, which he never talks about, keeping his personal life in dim light.

Daler tweeted about his achievement as well.

Undoubtedly, the singer has become an inspiration for millions with his successful efforts for the environment.
