The music should help promote a project and not itself: Leslie Lewis

MUMBAI: Most musicians would like their work to be a scene stealer by itself, but not so for singer-composer Leslie Lewis. The musician who has seen the Indian music industry evolve for nearly four decades now, recently composed music for Fremantle Media's first web series ‘Confessions- It's Complicated.’ The series will air on Viacom's OTT platform Voot.

The title track composed by Lewis is a powerful one with some insane energy pumped into it. The musician has given his hundred per cent to it, but he does not want his song to be the focal point of the show. "Everybody should watch the show. They should also like the song, but it should be in the background and not be its hero. One's work should be designed in a way that it helps promote a project and not itself," said the unassuming composer.

Putting the music together for ‘Confessions- It’s Complicated’ was right up his alley too, having been in the advertising space for a long while. “The mechanics of the business is under control. So, I had to just wait for the requirements after which I knew that the show needed a song that would have a recall value. I have been working in the advertising industry for 40 years thus, things fell in place quickly,” said the composer.

The artiste also worked on another number for the show. This time it was a romantic one. “They wanted a song for one of the leads named Raka and it had to be a romantic one. I worked on the music while the lead sang it,” confirmed the musician.

Lewis is also working on something of his own. Something that he calls, music for a new singer called - Leslie Lewis. “I am creating this music for myself and this will bring a new sound in India. In fact, I haven’t been this excited to work on a project since Colonial Cousins and Coke Studio,” said the singer.
