Bollywood is insecure about me: Baba Sehgal

Baba-Sehgal

MUMBAI: Baba Sehgal is back on the digital medium in a big way with Viacom 18's VoD platform Voot. Sehgal will be seen as the main lead in their Voot Originals series 'Soadies', a fun take on one of Viacom's most cherished properties 'Roadies.'

Baba says he is delighted to have got an opportunity to associate with a platform that he likes the most. "The digital platform has given me a lot of love. My songs 'Rihanna O Rihanna,' 'Chicken Fried Rice' and 'Going to the Gym' have gone viral on my YouTube channel Baba Sehgal Entertainment. Voot too is on the same medium," said the 'Please Don't Fart' singer.

The Telugu industry power singer has also sung a song for 'Soadies.'

The rapper has been a part of the entertainment industry for almost two decades now, but he hasn't sung much for Bollywood. One of the main reasons for this, according to Baba, is Bollywood's insecurity. "Bollywood is a bit insecure about me. I am happy as an independent artist. I do indie pop that is why I am a popular artist. Bollywood has always been insecure so let it be insecure," stated the singer.

The rapper has known Bollywood music composers Shankar Mahadevan, A R Rahman, Vishal Dadlani, Salim-Sulaiman and many others for years now. However, being acquainted with the film music industry hasn't fetched him many offers. But he does not feel let down. "I feel good because maybe they are scared to call me. I respect their choices. Moreover, I am busy doing so much myself. My fans have supported me all this while and they continue to do the same. There are also haters. They write a lot of negative comments, even that helps me. They are the reason why I am talking rap even after 25 years. I think we as independent artistes don’t really need to go to Bollywood because we are a passionate lot of independent artistes."

Baba, all set to work on his next song 'Teen Takle' with Rajiv Laxman and Raghu Ram, said that it does not matter what a music video's budget is. "I could spend a crore, lakh, thousands or hundreds on a song but if the content is not good, no one will watch it. So why get into the money mould? Work instead on the content," he advises.
