Idea Jalsa sets off on 12 city tour

MUMBAI: Enthralling the country with legends and maestros of Indian classical and folk musicians ‘Idea Jalsa – Music for the Soul’ has embarked on a 12 city tour marking its 10th edition.

Starting from Chennai on the 5 February, the tour has already covered five cities. Saturday is Agartala’s lucky day to be spellbound by the ever captivating Indian traditional music. So far, the tour has produced breathtaking performances in five cities by legends as well as the rising stars of Indian classical music.

Chennai witnessed maestro Jayteerth Mevundi’s powerful vocal performance which was followed by an exciting jugalbandi of maestros Shashank S and Abhishek Raghuram – who performed together for the first time in Chennai. The following event at Hyderabad had a specially designed concept by ‘Shankar Shambhu Junior’, where the next generations of Shankar Shambhu viz. Deepak Pandit, Ram Shankar, Rakesh Pandit, Sneha Shankar paid tribute to legendary Qawwal ‘Shankar Shambhu’ followed by another unique act of live poetry and ghazals by the legendary Javed Akhtar, prince of ghazals Ranjit Rajwada and rising star Himani Kapoor. Next stop was at picturesque Dehradun which witnessed the vocal charm of young maestros Ritesh and Rajnish Mishra and later was blessed by a divine performance by the legendary Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia.

Taking the musical delight to Thiruvananthapuram with a riveting performance by popular folk band of Kerala ‘Vayalli Bambo’ and rising star S Jananiy, ‘Vayalli Bamboo’ are the only music band in the country that uses instruments specially designed out of bamboo. The event also witnessed an energetic duet by The Legendary Dr Kadri Gopal and maestro Pravin Godkhindi. The musical extravaganza continued to Bhubaneshwar, where the audiences were offered with a performance by talented classical singer Ankita Joshi and popular flutist Debopriya Randive, followed by the mesmerizing sound of the santoor by suave Rahul Sharma.

‘Idea Jalsa – Music for the Soul’ is a unique project, ideated by Art And Artistes (India) Pvt. Ltd and founded by Durga Jasraj since its inception in 2006.

With a decade into its existence ‘Idea Jalsa – Music for the Soul’, has presented over 7,000 musicians of different genres of music from India. It achieved another milestone being the single largest platform of Indian music that has reached more than 30 crore audiences in India. Seven more cities are yet to be astounded by the magic of the current edition which comes to an end on 26 March 2016.
