1.    Papon’s good name is Angaraag Mahanta, but he is famous by his nickname only.

2.    He is the founder and lead singer of the folk-fusion band called ‘Papon and The East India Company.’

3.    Papon is a trained Indian classical, devotional (Borgeet) and folk music singer, who got his initial training from his father late Khagen Mahanta (Assamese folk singer) and mother Archana Mahanta.

4.    He spent most of his childhood in Assam and he was introduced to Indian classical music and several instruments such as khol, tabla, guitar, and harmonium early on in his childhood.

5.    Papon released his first Hindi album in 2012 ‘The Story So Far’ and first album ‘Jonaaki Raati' in Assamese in 2004.

6.    He won the GIMA award for his first album ‘The Story So Far’ in 2012, and for the best pop album of the year in 2015.

7.    Papon’s first Bollywood number is ‘Sajna Baware’ from the movie ‘Let's Enjoy'.

8.    Instead of going out in daylight, Papon goes out only in the night!  

9.    The singer, known popularly as Papon, aspired to be an architect before realising music was his thing.

10. Papon’s fans call themselves ‘Paponists’ have opened NGOs by the same name.

11. Papon made his acting debut with Assamese film Rodor Sithi, directed by acclaimed theatre artiste Baharul Islam.
