Ennui.bomb plans 'Open Mic' for aspiring musicians

MUMBAI: For all you young aspiring musicians, here is an opportunity to showcase your talent.

Promoters of Vans New Wave Festival, Ennui.bomb along with Three Wise Monkeys introduce ‘Open Mic’, a platform for budding musicians/bands/singer/songwriters. The event, scheduled to take place on 3 March 2016 at Three Wise Monkeys, will be hosted by upcoming indie singer Bianca Love who would also be performing at the venue. Promoting fresh talent has always been the focus of Ennui.Bomb. “It is the same names playing at various venues and the fans are pretty much familiar with the existing bands, the intention is to find the new wave of fresh artists. We have had an amazing response so far with bands sending in entries. A lot of artists from other states have shown interest, we have entries from Jammu & Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh as well,” mentioned Ennui.Bomb co-founder Rishu Singh.

The short-listed bands will get an opportunity to perform for 15 minutes on stage and the event will accommodate about eight to 10 bands. Original songs would be ideal but the bands can play covers as well. Ennui.bomb would also be inviting various event promoters and gig organisers for the event. “These bands are fresh, many of them may have never performed live or just played a couple of gigs, so it is a good platform. Another positive thing is that there would be instant feedback. If someone is not up to the mark he can better himself and if a band is really good, we may have found the next big thing. This is also the reason to have Bianca Love host and perform as she is a young and fresh indie artist who is breaking ground, from whom the performing artists can take away ideas or some guidance. This opens scope for artist collaborations as well,” added Rishu. Singh says that it feels very positive to hear a number of artists from other states and cities wanting to perform but is not sure how feasible it would be for some to travel all the way to Mumbai as there is no monetary component involved.

Khar-based pub Three Wise Monkeys is supporting Ennui.Bomb with the venue. The event is intended to be held monthly and Singh also plans to take it to other cities eventually. Equipment available for the event would be very basic, there would be no drum-kit and it would be an all acoustic performance. In case, any artist needs a percussive instrument he as to make his own arrangement. The final list of bands will be announced on 25 February 2016.
